Recent Canterbury Indianapolis Downtown Review: "This was the third time that I have stayed here. The last time was about 5 years ago. I could tell that there had been some renovating. This is not your "cookie cutter" kind of hotel. I like that and while the elevators may be small, and slow there is a character that this hotel has that no "Hilton" will ever match. The staff was very friendly, from  the maintenance man we rode the elevator with, to the bar tender. Oh, it has a great little bar, very cozy. We decided to have dinner at the "Turner", even though we were seated about 15 minutes before they stopped serving at 10 p.m. the waiter, "Keith" was great. We ended up being the last people there but never felt rushed. The food was good, not great, (presentation first rate, but see below) but the atmosphere is very intimate. I am aware that this hotel was just purchased last year and is under relatively new ownership. The "misses" that I noticed were, no hand soap in the room. Kinda annoying. The room includes their breakfast buffet, I got there about 9:30, and there were no more eggs, instead of just making a new pan, they started bringing them out if you asked for them... c'mon, this place presents as a "upper echelon" hotel, I sat and watched quite a large number of people leave or grumble because of this. The table of six next to me were PAYING for the buffet at 10 bucks a pop. Scrambling another 3-4 dozen eggs is cheap by comparison of having people leave with a "bad taste" so to speak. The same kind of thing happened when we ordered our dinner, my wife's first choice was "out"... not that many people in there, how could that happen if you aren't pinching pennies. This hotel is in a great location and has character in spades, and a great staff, Mr. Turner, I honestly think you would have people lined up to your restaurant if you wouldn't be worried about having a few eggs left over, so to speak. Kinda like, "If you build it they will come". Give your chef what he needs... Bottom line, great hotel, restaurant"
